the christian congregation of jw sent a letter to all congregations regarding hospital liaison committees.
this letter will be read the week of january 30, 2006. i can email a pdf of the letter to someone willing to post it here.
belbab,
Thank you for your insightful comments on these letters.
Thanks also fro your 'wise' quotes. Here's one more:
Wisely, Christian youth seeks such spiritual stature [as a "mature minor"] early in life. (page 4, point 9.)
It's yet another attempt by the GB to brainwash JW toddlers to turn themselves into 'bloodless martyrs.'
(By the way, they are not from the 1995 letter but from the 2006 one!)
It's also interesting why WT Legal wants the elders to destroy the 1995 letter. I read through it again, and wondered whether it might have anything to do with the second last sentence of the letter:
Aiding others to maintain integrity brings true joy.
On first glance, it seems innocuous enough. But it's actually suggesting that abstaining from blood is a matter of Christian integrity. And we all know what happens to 'true Christians'™ who don't maintain their integrity. It's the big JC for them.
So, perhaps the GB are wanting to slowly introduce the idea that accepting blood is no longer a judicial offence, so one day in the distant future, when accused by these nasty apostates that they disfellowship or disassociate Witnesses for accepting blood, they can retort, "We've never said that for years and years and years."
Just a thought...
this doesn't make alot of sense to me, because the word "inspire" can have alot of different meanings, as i've copied from the merriam-webster online dictionary below.
while i definitely believe in god, i think that #5 is probably closer to the truth.
if i write a book or a song and say i was inspired by elvis, that doesn't mean that elvis wrote it or even approved it-----it simply means that i wrote it with him in mind.
Mary,
How does Jehovah go from being a vengeful, warrior in the OT, to being a far more benevolant God in the NT?
Because a belief in any 'god' is a primeval, superstitious viral infection that persists among weak-minded humans despite all the evidence to the contrary?
Am I correct in understanding that you're proposing the premise that Rook takes such exception to, namely:
that the Bible is a sort of age-long story of man's effort to find God
rather than 'Divine Revelation' imparted to man? If so, I fully agree.
z,
I just read the book and I was in awe . . . Great book if you don’t have it get it.
I wholeheartedly agree. No 'loyal' JW would read it though, as it would devastate their faith. For all others, it's un-put-down-able.
Rook,
The Bible is thus reduced to the level of other books, and is made to appear, not a Divine book, but rather a human book, pretending to be Divine.
Absolutely true. I couldn't have put it better myself.
if we will assume that the Bible is just what it appears to be, and study it's books to know their contents, we will find there a Unity of Thought indicating that One Mind inspired the writing and compilation of the whole series of books; that it bears on it's face the stamp of it's Author; that it is in a unique and distinctive sense THE WORD OF GOD.
I've read and studied the Bible for over forty years and come to the conclusion there's no 'Unity of Thought,' there's no 'One Mind' and, regretfully, there's probably not even a god, any god. I respect, of course, your right to your own opinion.
Welcome to JWD, by the way!

Mary,
In 2 Tim 3:16, isn't the Greek for 'inspired' theopneustos, literally 'god breathed'? It appears the writer was intending to convey the idea that the Scriptures were 'influenced or guided by divine or supernatural inspiration' (the first of your definitions).
Of course, that doesn't mean the Scriptures really were inspired by god, merely that the writer claimed they were! Also, when he wrote of "All Scripture," he would be referring to what we now call the Old Testament ('Hebrew Scriptures' in Watchtower-speak!).
So, is there any evidence the Old Testament was inspired by god? Not if you believe the evidence in "Who Wrote the Bible?" by Richard E. Friedman, which clearly illustrates from the Old Testament where original texts were 'cut and pasted' to suit the, usually political, aims of the original authors.
No divine inspiration there, then, and obviously none in the book of 2 Timothy!

a new article has been posted on jwtruth.com which traces the contempt the watchtower society has had for the medical profession down the decades.
a secret watchtower document issued to jehovah's witness hospital liaison committees clearly demonstrates they have no more respect for doctors today than in earlier years.
the society is seen to be arrogant, condescending, lacking judgment, acting fraudulently and unprofessionally, being manipulative and cynically irresponsible.
Scully,
This fellow was an archivist or something like that at the Library of Congress, and had access to every book, magazine, journal ever published in the USA.
Would the Library of Congress have a copy of the manual? Do they even get privately published material? So, do they also have the Pay Attention book and other 'secret' WT manuals?
If so, how practical would it be to either borrow it or copy or scan it onsite?
blondie,
Congratulations, yet again you've come up trumps!
I guess these volumes are the WT floor and window cleaners' equivalents of Hematologists 'R' Us...

Who exactly wrote this? The Society? Is there a cover letter which identifies the source? I may have missed it but I didn't see who signed the letter.
Fair question. If there was a covering letter, we haven't yet been given it. The document is not a letter and is therefore not signed. It is an instruction/information sheet from Hospital Information Services in Brooklyn to all HLCs.
If anyone questions who it's from, they should ask themselves: who else knows of the 'secret' volumes issued to HLCs, and their titles? Who else would know the details of letters sent to HLCs? Who else would be sending instructions to HLCs? Perhaps, more pertinently, from whom else would HLCs accept instructions?
Welcome to JWD, by the way.

candidlynuts,
what is the " family care" book/pamphlet they keep referring to?
LDH,
I have found no reference to "Medical Management, Family Care, the Pediatrics volume" anywhere on the Web Can anyone get their hands on this PRONTO????
We understand the Society issues a set of instructions to HLCs, and "Family Care," etc., are the titles of some of the individual volumes.
As these volumes also fall into the category of 'secret books,' it's unlikely they're on the web--yet.
undercover,
Their chance to live is being put in a precarious situation by uneducated, untrained, inexperienced lay clergy, who do not have the patients interests at heart but the interest of the organization. It's diabolical. If the patient were to die, it's second degree murder.
Good point.
Bryan,
Of course, admitting that the doctor wants a judges ruling so that the doctor can attempt to save your child's life, would just be, too, close to the truth.
Sadly, very true.

Hmmm....chain letter anyone?
Great idea--go for it. Just don't forget to mention www.JWTruth.com.
Elsewhere,
It can be downloaded Here.
Superb, thanks.
Blondie,
I think it would be best to educate the public and the medical community.
That's what we're trying to do on www.JWTruth.com .
Any constructive criticism you care to offer is always welcome...
